Kanpur: A constable, who saved the life of a 9-year-old girl, in Uttar Pradesh will be feted for his efforts in the case. The constable deployed at Bilhaur police station Kamal Kant earned a lot of respect and appreciation from DGP Hitesh Chandra Awasthi and ADG (zone) Bhanu Bhaskar. Kamal Kant saved the life of the girl, who was allegedly pushed into a deep dry well by a person named Satyam. The incident took place in Baidi Alipur village, Bilhaur on Sunday. The girl was stranded at about 10 metres (30 feet). Senior officials directed their subordinates to pull the girl from the well and without giving a second thought, constable Kant stepped up to help the little girl. Kamal Kant termed the experience "a little scary". He said that he was unable to see into the well due to the absence of light and a thick cover of shrubs. He said that even though the incident was intimidating, he was adamant on saving the girl's life, The Times of India reported. Kant recalled the experience and said, "At that point in time, I don't know from where I gained so much strength. My colleagues with the help of a thick rope lowered me inside the well. Without wasting any time, I just picked up the girl from the base and later asked my colleagues to pull us out from the well. "Police officials said that an appreciation letter will be handed over to Kant. SSP/DIG Preetinder Singh said, "As his senior, I am extremely proud of Kamal Kant and what he did will surely inspire other cops in the force. "
