Two patients lose life due to lack of oxygen in Bengaluru hospital, authorities say 'vendors did not supply'
Bengaluru: In an unfortunate incident, a 45-year-old woman and a 58-year-old man who were both Covid positive, lost their lives on Tuesday due to the lack of oxygen at Arka Hospital in Yelahanka New Town.Reports suggest that the patients had been admitted to the hospital on Monday evening. BBMP Health Officer of Yelahanka Dr Bhagyalakshmi, while speaking about the issue said that the patients had comorbidities and were in critical condition when they were brought to the hospital.She further said that even though the hospital was expecting oxygen supply on Monday, it did not receive any and that an FIR against the hospital has been filed in regards to the case.Joint Commissioner of Yelahanka zone, Ashok, while speaking to a media house said that the Universal Air Products and Pai Air company, who were the hospital’s vendors, did not have any oxygen. He further said that be of the patients' oxygen saturation level was at 50 and the other's was at 40 when they reached the hospital and was admitted by the hospital staff. He said that oxygen was later arranged from nearby hospitals. This is however not an isolated incident of this kind and unfortunately, several people in the country at various places have lost their lives due to the lack of oxygen during such trying times.
