People flock into Covid testing centres as the Pune Municipal Corporation issues guidelines strict guidelines for service sectors- to operate only after either getting vaccinated or getting a Covid-negative report every 15 days.As the numbers of covid cases surge, Pune observes a strict curfew of 6 pm to 6 am. The sectors that are allowed to operate are manufacturing, construction, banking and financial institutes, e-commerce, courier service, eateries and restaurants only for parcel facility, autorickshaws, cabs & private buses, marriage halls and private security agencies.“If the rules are not followed, then the person would be fined Rs 1,000 while the organisation where the person is working would be penalised with Rs 10,000. If the violations are frequent then the PMC will either suspend the license or ban operations till the end of the pandemic,” as per the guidelines issued by the authorities. The Pune Municipal Corporation has asked all sectors that are currently closed because of the restrictions to get their staff vaccinated to enable smooth operations after the restrictions are lifted from the city. As the virus is spreading like wildfire, the key to control this situation is by ramping up the vaccination process.“Many employees are working in essential services who are younger than 45 and are not yet eligible for vaccination. Thus, they will have to get a negative RT-PCR report for Covid every 15 days. However, this will put their life at risk as they will have to visit the swab collection centre for the test where actual patients would be testing themselves,” said Rakesh Shinde, owner of a small manufacturing unit as reported by Indian Express. The Pune Municipal Corporation aims to vaccinate one lakh people a day. Maharashtra with 76,86 lakh doses is the state with the highest doses given out for vaccination. The authorities are planning to ramp up the process by adding new testing and vaccination centres in the city.
