Profiteering from pandemic: AC mechanic in Faridabad sells oxygen cylinder for Rs 45,000, arrested
Faridabad: There seems to be no end to illegal profiteering even in times of a raging COVID-19 pandemic. An air conditioning mechanic has been arrested by Faridabad police for allegedly selling an oxygen cylinder for Rs 45,000 amid the pandemic. The city police said the accused identified as Sachin was selling the oxygen costing Rs 6,000 to 8,000 for Rs 45,000.The accused is a resident of Ballabhgarh district in Haryana. Police arrested the accused after they were alerted by a local resident named Sandeep who needed an oxygen cylinder for a kin, according to a report in Indian Express."The accused quoted a price of Rs 45,000, and since Sandeep was desperate, he had no choice but to pay him the sum, after which the accused asked Sandeep to meet him at a community centre to collect the cylinder. After transferring the money, it seems Sandeep decided to teach the accused a lesson instead of picking up the cylinder from him and hence contacted the police," the report quoted Sube Singh. Faridabad Police PRO as saying.After the tip-off by Sandeep, the police also reached the spot and arrested the accused when he arrived with the cylinder. The police also seized the money he took from Sandeep."During questioning, the accused revealed that the same oxygen cylinder used to treat patients during the Covid pandemic is also helpful during AC repair. The accused was produced in court and sent to judicial remand. Further probe is being conducted in the case," police PRO further added.
