Boss pays employee in cryptocurrency but wants it returned after its value rose by 700%
An employee at a tech start-up was shocked when her employer asked her to return their salary which was paid in cryptocurrency - because its value has skyrocketed. The worker estimated has received their payment in August 2020 and since then, the value of the cryptocurrency rose up by more than 700 per cent which means that they have a small fortune. And now, their boss wants it back. The anonymous employee said that they have worked for the CEO previously. They recently received an email claiming that because they failed to generate revenue for the company, they should send back all of the crypto received, Marketwatch reported. In return, the employee will be paid in US dollars for the work they originally did."So basically, stating that I can invoice in USD at seven times less than what the crypto is worth today," the worker said. They added, "I am not really sure what to do. I have worked with this person for many years, and he has a tendency to try to change the terms of payment after agreeing on a certain way of operating. What do you think is a fair solution? Should I return some of the cryptocurrency for hours worked? What should I tell this employer?"People did not think that the employee should return the money. One Twitter user asked, "If the value decreased, would they be paying you the difference? My guess is - NO!"Another user said, "It is an unconditional payment for a job done! Nobody can ask for it back. This is not the kind of employer you want to be working for."Yet another wrote, "Tell him to get lost seriously. What a clown for even trying that on."
