Vijayawada: A newlywed woman in Andhra Pradesh’s Guntur district on Thursday filed a police complaint alleging that her husband and in-laws cheated her and harassed her for dowryThe 20-year-old woman, in her complaint at Tenali 3 town police station, stated that on April 4, she tied the nuptial knot with a man, who is an employee of a private consultancy company in Vijayawada. She alleged that her family gave a dowry of Rs 10 lakh as her husband wanted to go to Canada for further studies and settle there with her. Things took an unwelcoming turn after the complainant shifted to her matrimonial house. She learnt that her husband suffered from impotency. “The next day, while the groom's family was making arrangements for the reception in Vijayawada, the girl informed her parents about it who then confronted the groom’s family members and returned home with their newlywed daughter when a consensus on the issue could not be reached,” a report published by The Times of India stated.According to the police, the groom’s family members then asked the complainant’s family to give them Rs 8 lakh which were spent on reception arrangements. When they visited the woman’s house to demand the money, a heated altercation flared up. The altercation soon turned violent and the woman’s parents were allegedly assaulted by the groom’s family members. Subsequently, the woman decided to file a cheating and dowry harassment case against her husband and his family.In another incident, a woman was murdered with a knife by her husband at their house in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday. The killing occurred a day before the couple’s first wedding anniversary, police said.
